At least four people died and dozens more were injured on Saturday as a result of a mass attack in Dadeville, in the US state of Alabama, the BBC reports. The attack happened on several people who were celebrating their 16th birthday, writes News.ro.

The attack happened at the Mahogany Masterpiece dance studio on Saturday, around 03.30 am.

“I feel the pain of the people of Dadeville and my fellow Alabamians this morning,” Gov. Kay Ivey said, according to the source cited.

“Violent attacks have nothing to do with us in the state, and we are constantly being updated by law enforcement as details emerge about this incident,” the Alabama governor added on Twitter.

The governor is a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, the right to keep and bear arms, in the context of which she signed into law last year a law to eliminate the requirement to obtain a permit for public concealed carry in Alabama.

The National Rifle Association (NRA – no) endorsed her gubernatorial candidacy in last year’s election, in which she was re-elected.

Pastor Ben Hayes, former chaplain for the Dadeville Police Department and the local high school football team, said most of the victims were teenagers.

“I knew many high school students. Dadeville is a small town and this incident will affect everyone in the area,” Hayes explained.

A memorial service was held for the victims of Saturday’s attack.

The attack in Alabama followed another attack the same day at a park in Louisville, Kentucky, which left two people dead and four others injured.

Dadeville is a rural town located in Tallapoosa County in eastern Alabama with a population of approximately 3,200.

There have been more than 140 gun attacks in the United States this year.
