Ronnie O’Sullivan reached the round of 16 of the World Snooker Championship, the reigning champion defeated China’s Pan Junxiu (35th in the world ranking) with a score of 10-7.

Ronnie O’Sullivan vs Pang Junxiu 10-7 at WC Snooker 2023

The heavy favorite at the Crucible Theater was leading 5-0 and 9-4, Pang managed to win three frames in a row, but Ronnie eventually closed out the match.

A seven-time world champion (he shares the modern record with Stephen Hendry), O’Sullivan will defeat the winner of the match between China’s Ding Junhui (16) and Iran’s Hossein Vafai (20) in the round of 16.

How to play at the World Snooker Championship

  • First round matches will be played on a best of 19 frames basis. The second round will be best of 25 frames, the same as the quarters.
  • In the semi-finals, the winner will be determined by the “best of 33 shots” system. Finally, in the grand final, the winner will be decided after the “best of 35 frames”.

How it will be in the final

  • There will be 8 frames in the first session of the final. The second session will consist of 9 frames, the third will consist of 8 frames. Finally, the final session will have a maximum of 10 frames (may or may not all be played, depending on the score on the table).
