A 23-year-old British student was sentenced to 100 hours of community service on Friday after being found guilty of threats or offensive behavior for throwing eggs at King Charles III, AFP reported.
Patrick Thelwell was arrested by police on November 9 and stood trial at York Crown Court on Friday after throwing at least five eggs at the monarch while out with his wife. However, the pots did not hit the target. Then he shouted: “The king is a pedophile!”
The young man pleaded not guilty, arguing that his act of “low-intensity violence” was lawful, being an act of self-defence against “the violence of the British state”.
In January, a 21-year-old man was fined £100 (around €112) for throwing an egg at the king in December during a visit to Luton, a town in north London.
Less popular than his mother, Elizabeth II, who succeeded him in September, King Charles, 74, is due to be crowned on May 6 at Westminster Abbey in the British capital.
Several of his recent trips have been the subject of protests by anti-monarchists, who have displayed placards reading “He is not my king.”
