Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday signed a law simplifying the mobilization of Russians into the army, the text of which was adopted by the parliament in two days, Russian agencies report.

According to the new law, the reservist can now be mobilized electronically, through the portal of Russian public services or if the order is given to a third party, writes AFP.

Previously, the summons had to be served personally.

In September 2022, President Vladimir Putin ordered the mobilization of 300,000 reservists, the implementation of which has often been chaotic.

Although the Kremlin denies it wants to launch a second wave of mobilization, many in Russia are worried about it as the Ukrainian military prepares a major counteroffensive.

The police have the power to prosecute people who evade registration and face prison terms. The tax office, universities and other government bodies will be required to provide personal data of those who may be mobilized.

Refusal to appear at the registry office will deprive Russians of the opportunity to work as entrepreneurs or self-employed persons, receive loans or dispose of their houses and cars.

These measures also apply to Russians who have left their country and work remotely.

The previous mobilization in September 2022 caused tens of thousands of Russians to flee abroad.
