
Runciman Prize jury chairman Peter Frankopan, professor of international history at Oxford, called the year an outstanding year by announcing the shortlist for 2023. The Runciman Prize is an institution established in honor of the Byzantine scholar Stephen Runciman when the League was run by Lord Jellicoe.
From a broad list of 24 books announced in January, the judges selected 7 books for the shortlist. These are: The Aesthetics of Heritage by Anthony Anaxagora, In Search of Theophrastus: Journeys in Search of the Lost Philosopher by Laura Beatty, Greek Myths Shaping Our Thinking by Richard Buxton, Fear of the Light by Juliet. Harvey, “A New History of Greek Mathematics” by Reviel Netz, “This Afterlife: Selected Poems” by A. E. Stallings, and “Revealed: The Greek and Roman Body” by Caroline Vought.
The awards ceremony will take place in the Great Hall of King’s College London on Monday 19 June 2023 at 19:00. The Anglo-Greek League Runciman Award is sponsored by the AC Laskaridis Charitable Foundation and the AG Leventis Foundation. The value of the prize for the winner is £10,000.
