The court also fully satisfied the civil claim, thus Shor’s assets worth more than five billion lei, which have been seized, must be confiscated in favor of the state, writes jurnal.md.

“Shor will spend 15 years in prison for stealing a billion, and his assets will be confiscated. Such a decision was made today by the Court of Appeal. We demanded this in order to give people justice. This is what the citizens demanded – that those who steal should return the money, and the law should be at the head of the table. Only in this way can justice gain its legitimacy through legal decisions that punish thieves and carry out justice,” writes President Maia Sandu on Facebook.

As jurnal.md reports, Ilan Shor reacted on Facebook shortly after the announcement of the decision of the Court of Appeal of Chisinau.

“These three judges will soon be behind bars. I want these judges, after seeing this video, to know that I and my supporters will definitely not forget how under pressure an illegal and unprecedented decision was made in violation of all procedures. and norms,” Shor said on a video recording in Russian.

He added that he has no intention of surrendering to the authorities.

“This decision is revenge for the protest movement, which, as I am not ashamed to admit, is led by me and my party (SOR, no). This is revenge for the fact that we fight for a good life. No decision will stop me, I will go to the end,” said Ilan Shor.

Ilan Shor fled the country

Ilan Shor was sentenced by the court of first instance to 7 and a half years of imprisonment in the case of bank robbery, but until then he was at liberty pending the final decision in this case.

Shor’s case has been pending in the Kagulu Court of Appeal since September 2018, with dozens of court hearings postponed. In August 2021, the Supreme Court of Justice issued an irrevocable decision, by which the case of Ilan Shor was transferred to the Court of Appeal of Chisinau from the Court of Appeal of Cagul. At the same time, Ilan Shor was kept under preventive measures – arrest and wanted notice.

Although he did not officially admit it, Ilan Shor, MP since February 24, 2019, would have left the Republic of Moldova in June 2019, after the Democratic Party handed over the government.
