Mary Quant, an iconic figure of the swinging Sixties, has died “peacefully” at her home in Surrey, southern England, her family said.

She was “one of the most celebrated creators of the 20th century and an exceptional innovator,” her family also said.

Born on February 11, 1930 in London, the creator opened her first store in 1955 under the name “Bazaar” and is located in the Chelsea district. The clothing and accessories store quickly became a meeting place for members of groups such as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. It seems that Brigitte Bardot and Audrey Hepburn stepped on his doorstep.

Thanks to the famous bangs, styled by stylist Vidal Sassoon, the creator had a unique style.

Mary Quant became famous for dresses and short skirts with simple lines and bright colors, but women’s fashion also owes her austere pants, plastic raincoats, a set of cosmetics and waterproof mascara.

“It just so happens that my clothes fit perfectly with teenage fashion, pop music, espresso bars and jazz clubs,” she said in Quant by Quant, the author’s first autobiography, published in 1965.
