Green Light has received a new TV spin-off based on his books. George R.R. Martin “Tales of Dank and Egg“.
It was reported by Warner Bros. Discovery during the launch of Max’s new streaming platform, a combination of HBO Max and Discovery+. The confirmation comes just over two years after Variety reported that a prequel was in development.
Based on Martin’s fantasy novels, the story follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and the young Aegon Targaryen (Egg) 90 years before the events of A Song of Ice and Fire.
So far, the project is called “Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: Hedge Knight”. The official synopsis reads: “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes roamed Westeros… a young, naive, but brave knight, Ser Duncan the Tall and Eg. In an era when the Targaryens still hold the Iron Throne, powerful enemies, great destinies and dangerous deeds await two friends.
Martin will executive produce and write the script, as will Ira Parker, who produced the first season of House of the Dragon. But in addition to Parker, the team of authors includes other people who collaborated on “House of the Dragon” and “Game of Thrones”.
Martin has released three Tales of Dunk and Egg novels: The Hedge Knight (1998), Sworn Sword (2003) and Mystery Knight (2010). All three were subsequently published in one book, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (2015).
