Marcel Çolaku says on Facebook that he has submitted a draft law that prohibits the use of insect flour in the preparation of products listed in the National Register of Traditional Products.
“As other European countries have done it, so must we! In addition, all imported food products containing ingredients derived from insects must be displayed separately on store shelves. People need to know what they are buying and the label needs to be clear and contain full information about these products. Economic patriotism means protecting local producers and traditional Romanian products and food,” wrote Čolaku on Facebook.
750 food products are included in the National Register of Traditional Products.
Traditional products are food products produced on the national territory and for the production of which local raw materials are used, which do not contain food additives, have a traditional recipe, a method of production and/or processing and a traditional technological process and distinguish it from other similar products belonging to of the same category.
After passing the verification procedure, the products are registered by the Ministry of Agriculture in the National Register of Traditional Products and the document “Certificate of Traditional Products” is issued.
