
OUR Billy Porterlet’s play it James Baldwin in the upcoming film based on the life of the popular American writer, critic and activist.
The Pose star will also take part in the film as a producer with Media Group Pictures. But in addition to starring and producing, Porter will co-write the screenplay with screenwriter and playwright Dan McCabe. The script will be based on the book “James Baldwin: biography» since 1994.
This project has been Porter’s dream and personal ambition for many years. The 53-year-old Broadway veteran expressed his admiration for and connection to the civil rights leader and essayist he mentioned during his historic acceptance speech when he received the 2019 Emmy Award.
“As a black homosexual living on this planet with a conscience, I am, as James Baldwin put it, in a “state of rage.” I exist because James existed. And I intend to pass on his legacy to future generations,” Porter said.

Born in 1924 in Harlem, Baldwin became known for his theater work, poetry, and book writing, often referring to his experience as a black gay man in the United States. Some of his most popular works are Go Tell It on the Mountain, Notes from a Son, Fire Next Time, Another Country, and Giovanni’s Room.
Some of his most important works were filmed in feature films, including the film “If Bil Street could speak” directed by Barry Jenkins and the documentary “I’m not your Negro” directed by Raul Pek.
