Is the most expensive sandwich in the world worth the money?

Since 2014 most expensive sandwich in the world served at Serendipity3 in New York for $214 (about €196).

This special grilled cheese usually needs to be ordered 48 hours in advance, but today (04.12) the sandwich will be served all day.

This sandwich is also the most expensive in the world with the Guinness Awards badge. His content is not random. Let’s start with French bread, specially made with Dom Perignon champagne, which has edible golden flakes inside.

Each sandwich contains about 225 grams of the rare caciocavallo podolico cheese, which sells for about 50 euros per pound. Only 25,000 cows in the world produce the milk used to make this cheese, and their milking season lasts only two months a year.

The inside of the bread is smeared with butter and white truffle oil, naturally mixed with golden flakes, before baking.

When the sandwich is ready, it is cut diagonally and another layer of edible gold is poured onto the edge of each half.

Of course, the most expensive sandwich in the world cannot be served with plain ketchup. Instead, you’ll dip it in South African tomato and lobster soup.

“When we receive an order for this particular sandwich, we contact our suppliers immediately to send us the ingredients by air. Our baker bakes the bread and the process is instant,” says creative director of Serendipity3.

As for taste? According to a CNBC reporter, this is generally a delicious sandwich. The gold doesn’t add much flavor, but what stands out is the expensive and tasty cheese.

Is it worth the money when you can make a cheese sandwich at home for less than 1/10 the price? The answer is probably no.
