The parliament voted for a provision that it is not allowed to exceed the height of the building and the coefficient, as well as deviate from other building conditions defined in special presidential decrees governing the municipality. Thus, residential interventions that would spoil the character of the suburb and burden the environment and ecosystem of the area were not allowed.

With the full support of all municipal factions, the Mayor of Filoteis-Psihiko, Dimitris Galanis, led an initiative to collect 5,000 signatures from the municipalities in order to prevent height excess and change the building conditions of the area.

Following the passage of the amendment, the mayor issued the following statement:

“Today is a significant day for our municipality. Day of justification of the struggle that all the inhabitants of our municipality have been waging for some time. Parliament recently voted for an amendment whereby the garden towns, i.e. Philothei and Psychiko, are exempt from NOK, as we have urged. This development justifies the efforts of our municipal government, which from the very beginning, with consistent intervention at all levels, fought to have a special position for our municipality and the special regime that governs it, so that the face of our suburbs does not change. . I want to sincerely thank the Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who accepted our request and, through his personal intervention, fixed the failure that irreparably affected our suburb, as well as the MPs who supported the amendment, and also want to thank all the municipal factions. of the Municipality of Filothei-Psychiko, who have joined us in this effort, as well as the Association for the Protection of the Environment of Psychiko. And, of course, our citizens, who, by exerting pressure, contributed to our efforts. With unity, dynamism and above all the interests of our region, the municipality of Filothei-Psychiko will remain the Exemplary Suburb, as we want it and as its inhabitants deserve.”
