Main Regional Police Directorate of Central Macedonia on the occasion of its celebration Easterrecalls useful tips to prevent theft and protect the property of citizens who will be absent from home.
Especially:
- Before leaving on vacation, make sure the doors and windows of your home are well closed.
- Report your absence only to relatives and friends or neighbors you trust so that they can watch over your home, and if there are especially serious reasons, to the police station in your area.
- Don’t leave notes about when you’ll be back or how long you’ll be gone.
- Do not leave messages outside the door or mailboxes full of newspapers and magazines on the landing. This is the “barking” of your absence. Also, don’t leave ladders, furniture, or other bulky items in the garden that will help an intruder up.
- Your house or apartment should not look “completely closed”, indicating your absence.
- If possible, set an automatic lighting timer.
- Turn on the alarm system, if you have one.
- Do not leave large sums of money and valuables at home.
- In the event that your neighbors, friends or relatives have informed you that they have noticed something suspicious in your home, do not hesitate to report it to 100 or your local police department.
- In case of theft, report to the number “100” or to the local security department.
- Never leave your wallet, wallet, money, credit cards, sunglasses, motorcycle or car keys open, no matter where you are.
- Never leave your luggage unaccompanied if you cannot leave it at the check-in desk.
- If you are traveling by public transport, do not take large sums of money with you.
- Carry out transactions at ATMs with great care and discretion.
- If you use your own vehicle (car or motorcycle), do not leave valuables in it or place them in an invisible place.
- Never leave your bike or car keys on them, even if you are going away for a short time.
- Always park on streets that are as well lit as possible at night and never in deserted areas. In any case, do not forget to activate the alarm, if you have one.
- Insure the hotel room or rented room – the apartment you are staying in, even if you are leaving for a short time when you leave.
- Make sure money or valuables you don’t need on the way out are in a safe place in your home.
- During entertainment in centers – bars – cafes – restaurants – in open areas, never leave your wallet, sunglasses, mobile phone, keys on the table, as well as a cardigan or jacket, bag or fanny pack on or hanging from adjacent seats.
- Remember: if you lose or have something stolen from you, or if your home is broken into, report it to the police immediately (100).
