Attica Park: White tiger abandoned in landfill euthanized

Euthanasia was performed today in Hashiya, white striped which was found abandoned under a trash can near Attico Park on 28 February.

As Attic Park reports in a related Facebook post, despite concerted efforts, the little tiger had serious health issues that kept it from going big.

In its “farewell” to Hasia, Attic Park lists all the efforts made to save the little feline family and highlights the need to fight wildlife smuggling in our country.

Full post:

“Since February 28, when she was thrown out of the Attic Zoological Park by order of the competent authorities, little Khasia has remained for reception, care and treatment in our institutions.

From the first moment, serious problems that he faced were noticed.

Our people, veterinarians and caregivers, were by her side every moment with great love.

In search of hope for recovery and a quality life, as befits a tiger, he underwent specialized tests. Imaging results, blood tests and medical history were immediately sent to the relevant authorities and then to specialized centers in Europe, America and Africa (AAP, Born Free, Panthera Africa, The Wildcat Sanctuary, 4Paws).

The purpose of contacts with the above centers (when sending all the tests) was to study the possibility of transferring the animal to one of them for further maintenance and treatment. The responses received from these centers ruled out such a possibility.

The Ministry of the Environment set up a committee of twelve Greek veterinarians who issued an opinion based on the young animal’s medical findings.

Unfortunately, his serious incurable and painful genetic problems, incompatible with the elementary quality of life and the rules of well-being, prompted both the Greek veterinarians who were on the committee and foreign experts to unanimously recommend euthanasia to the competent authorities. the only selection, as is often the case when the animal suffers with no hope of improvement.

Following the final order of the authorities, in the presence of the veterinarians of the East Attica region, little Khasia today left painlessly, to the place where she lived all this time and among the people who cared for her, loved her and became very attached to her. her during those 6 weeks. The animal was then transferred to the Pathological Anatomy Laboratory of the Veterinary School of the University of Thessaly.

In connection with the sad story, everyone wishes that everyone would better understand the need to combat the smuggling of wild animals in our country and strengthen the efforts of the competent authorities in this direction. “.
