WTA 500 Charleston top seed Jessica Pegula lost in the semifinals to Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6(5).

Belinda Bencic defeated Jessica Pegula at WTA Charleston

Belinda Bencic (11 WTA) won at the end of the match in which Jessica Pegula was tied.

After conceding three set points at 5-4 in the first set, the second set went to a tie-break where the Swiss made a great comeback to take a 5-2 lead.

The match, which started on Saturday, was interrupted by rain in the second set tiebreak at 4-2 in favor of Pegul and lasted a total of two hours and three minutes.

Jessica Pegula overcame Iryna Bega in the round of 16 after 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

Ons Jaber and Belinda Bencic in the WTA Charleston final

In the finals of the WTA Charleston Bencic will meet the second favorite of the competition Ons Jaber, who in the semi-finals beat Daria Kasatkina with a score of 7-5, 7-5.

Last year, Ons Jaber was defeated in the final action by Belinda Bencic 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.

Charleston Open 2023 will be held from April 3 to 9 on clay and is part of the WTA 500 category. The total prize money of the tournament is $780,637, and the title champion was Belinda Bencic.
