On Saturday evening, Catholic Christians around the world celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord. In the Vatican, Pope Francis led the Resurrection service in St. Peter’s Cathedral, in his message to the faithful he lamented the “cold wind of war” and other injustices.

In his speech, the 86-year-old sovereign pontiff spoke of the bitterness, anxiety and frustration that many feel today, Sky News reported.

“We can feel helpless and discouraged in the face of the power of evil, the conflicts that tear apart relationships, the indifference that seems to reign in society, the cancerous tumor of corruption, the spread of injustice, the cold winds of war,” Pope Francis said.

Then the sovereign pontiff called for an end to all wars and, as he has done since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, he repeatedly referred to Ukraine and its people as “martyrs.”

Now the Pope is recovering from bronchitis, for which he was treated in the hospital for three days.
