
During the arrest of a 61-year-old man in the case antiques and in the case of the confiscation of a large number of ancient coins and two ceramic vases, which are subject to the protective provisions of the antiquities protection legislation, the police officers of the Department of Cultural Heritage and Antiquities Protection of the Security Directorate proceeded to Thessaloniki.
Specifically, as part of an investigation to identify people illegally in possession of ancient objects, a 61-year-old man was found yesterday in the Chalkidiki region after he had previously tried to send a package to a virtual recipient in Germany, which contained 180 ancient coins, through a transport company in Thessaloniki carefully hidden in a container of olive oil.
During searches carried out in his residences in Chalkidiki and Thessaloniki, 16 more coins, a bronze medallion, two ceramic burial vessels and a lead sling were found and confiscated.
The detainee will be taken to the competent prosecutor’s office.
