
The second warmest March in the world after 1979 was March 2023. March 2023 was particularly warm for several regions of the world, breaking hundreds of temperature records, according to the climate guide.
In particular, in Greece, the temperature in March 2023 fluctuated 1-2°C above the average for the period 1991-2020, while a decrease in precipitation was observed in the east and north-east of the country.
The March 2023 average temperature in Europe was 0.85°C above 1991-2020 levels and globally 0.51°C above 1991-2020 levels.
The largest positive temperature deviations from +4°С to +6°С were noted in the regions of Southern and Central Europe, as well as in the regions of the South-West of Russia. Negative deviations were noted only in the regions of the Scandinavian Peninsula.
Intense drought without rain for a month was observed in areas of Western Europe, such as Spain, as well as in the Balkans. Conversely, an increase in rainfall occurred in France and England. The latter recorded the rainiest March in 40 years.
