David De Gea has been with Manchester United since the summer of 2011 and the 32-year-old goalkeeper’s spell at Old Trafford will end at the end of this season after the Spaniard turned down a contract extension.
David De Gea refused to renew his contract with Manchester United – his potential successor Wojciech Szczesny
Manchester United paid €25 million to sign David De Gea from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011 and the Iberian has been an undisputed starter in goal for the Red Devils ever since.
After 12 years, De Gea is very close to leaving Manchester United after rejecting the offer of a contract extension.
De Gea’s current United deal expires this summer and the Old Trafford outfit have offered the 32-year-old goalkeeper a new contract, which he has rejected.
The reason could be a salary cut proposed by the management of Man United, which David De Gea would not agree with.
David De Gea is currently the highest paid player in the Premier League, alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland. The three earn £375,000 a week.
United were already considering the option of being without David De Gea, so they contacted Wojciech Szczesny, the current goalkeeper of Juventus.
He has also played in the Premier League for Arsenal and would be tempted to return to the Premier League. The move would also be good for Juventus, who are going through a not-so-good period from a financial point of view, according to Tuttosport.
Massimiliano Allegri, the current coach of Juventus, wants a new goalkeeper, young and promising.
According to Transfermarkt, Wojciech Szczesny is valued at 13 million euros.
A new adventure in the other top flight, Serie A, could follow for David De Gea.
The Iberian is wanted by Jose Mourinho, his former coach at Manchester United.
