Organizers of Monte Carlo once again withdrew from the competition in 2023: Fabio Fognini (champion four years ago) was forced to withdraw from the competition due to health problems.

In a post on his personal Instagram account, the Italian said that a leg injury prevents him from participating in the tournament “which he loves so much.”

Fognini thus joins an important list of players who will not participate in the Monte Carlo Masters in 2023.

The following will not be able to play in the ATP 1000 tournament: Rafael Nadal (record holder of the competition with 11 titles), Carlos Alcaraz, Pablo Carreño Busta, Gael Monfils, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov and Fabio Fognini.

The Monte Carlo tournament will take place from April 9 to 16 on clay, with a total prize pool of €5,779,335. The champion of the last two events is Stefanos Tsitsipas, while Rafael Nadal is the authoritative leader in terms of trophies won: 11.
