Farmers from all over the country have organized and are protesting on Friday in several regions of the country.

“This extreme form of manifestation is the result of the deep dissatisfaction and disappointment of Romanian farmers in connection with the solution found by the European Commission regarding the problems and serious imbalances faced by the agri-food sector of our country, against the background of the market. distortions caused by the armed conflict in Ukraine. The complete abolition of customs duties on all goods from Ukraine since the middle of last year has led to the commercial export of the consequences of the war to neighboring countries through an involuntary dumping effect, as it has encouraged Ukrainian farmers to sell goods below cost, while at the same time forcing the pace of cargo flows.

This measure did not and will not help Ukrainian farmers to restore the production cycle in the conditions of a strong increase in raw material costs, on the contrary, it has extremely disorganized the Romanian market,” the National Union of Cooperatives in the Vegetable Growing Industry said in a statement.

For several hours, hundreds of cars and agricultural machinery will move in a convoy at a reduced speed on the roads of several countries.

Also, the organizers published a list indicating the locations of the action and routes.

In Cluj, for example, more than 50 cars announced their presence.

“Between 12:00 and 15:00, there will be a protest demonstration by farmers in the territorial administrative units of Moldovenesti and Mihai Vityazu of Cluj county, where about 50 vehicles and agricultural machinery will be present. The protest demonstration will take place by moving vehicles in a line, at low speed, on the DN1 – E81 and DN75 road sectors,” IPJ Cluj reported.

The police urge drivers to avoid the areas of roads where the protest is being held, if possible.
