Sent to war as part of President Vladimir Putin’s mobilization last fall, Yuriy Degtyarev and Oleksiy Selivanov were among the first recruits to be detained for refusing to serve during the mobilization.

A video of their arrest in front of their fellow soldiers at a military base in Belgorod was widely circulated online in November.

On December 22, Degtyarev and Selivanov were sentenced by the Kursk Garrison Military Court to three years in a strict regime colony for refusing to obey the orders of the unit commander to supply weapons to their comrades.

One of the soldiers unsuccessfully appealed his sentence, writes “Kommersant”, although it is not reported which of them did it.
