Checks Mykonos Group started yesterday Environmental inspectors And her Economic Police, accompanied by a prosecutor and strong police. Twelve of the island’s well-known hotels, bars and restaurants are on the watch list, all in unplanned areas of the island. At the same time Mr. Minister of the Environment announced the use of an artificial intelligence system to compare aerial photographs from 2011 with today’s to detect any arbitrary “extensions” of buildings. The echelon, formed on the basis of the recently adopted regulation (No. 5037/2023), descends on Mykonos with a list of twelve enterprises – all coastal.
According to the information, the companies that will be checked for urban development, environmental and tax violations are Alemagu in Phtelia, Cavo Tagu in the country, Jackie Oh And super paradise on the beach of the same name Kitchen And Rasaji in Ornos, Lohan And Solymar in Kalo Livadi, Principot in Panormos, Santana And scorpios in Parga Nammos to Psara. As the minister noted Kostas Skrekasthese are cases in which complaints have been lodged with the authorities.
These checks follow autopsies carried out last week by a group of archaeologists, accompanied by officials from the city planning department of Syros (which still has jurisdiction over Mykonos).
At the second level, Mr. Skrekas promised to detect urban violations using an artificial intelligence system. “Obviously, the Mykonos story is out of control. Therefore, we took a series of actions using technology and artificial intelligence, comparing aerial photographs from 2011 to today. The goal is to systematically check all illegal buildings on the island,” he said in an interview on Sunday (Autopsy, Alpha). “Everything that happened after 2011 will be subject to sanctions.”
Aerial photos from 2011 compared to today – Twelve famous beach hotels, bars and restaurants on the checklist.
According to Mr Skrekas, there is no shortage of planning control on the island – for example, in 2021, 221 violations were identified and fines for construction of 20 million euros and maintenance fines of 10 million euros per year were imposed. Also, after the autopsy, an illegal establishment on Elia Beach was demolished. “Of course we have a picture of what is happening in Mykonos,” he said. “But there are people on the island who think they are above the law, that they live in an independent territory.”
Special urban plan
Regarding the Special Urban Planning Plan (STP) that is currently being prepared for Mykonos, Mr. Skrekas said that it will be completed by the end of the year. It should be noted that the first section of the plan was supposed to be submitted for consideration in early February, but this has not yet happened. The legislation on SEMs provides for their preparation at a stage that includes two sections: the analysis of spatial data and the formulation of a proposal for a new urban plan. And the total time to complete the EPS is about one and a half years, which is an extremely limited time for a project of this size, which has not yet been achieved in any EPS of this type (for example, Mati – Kokkino Limanaki, Elafonissos).
