According to Mr Skrekas, there is no shortage of planning control on the island – for example, in 2021, 221 violations were identified and fines for construction of 20 million euros and maintenance fines of 10 million euros per year were imposed. Also, after the autopsy, an illegal establishment on Elia Beach was demolished. “Of course we have a picture of what is happening in Mykonos,” he said. “But there are people on the island who think they are above the law, that they live in an independent territory.”

Special urban plan

Regarding the Special Urban Planning Plan (STP) that is currently being prepared for Mykonos, Mr. Skrekas said that it will be completed by the end of the year. It should be noted that the first section of the plan was supposed to be submitted for consideration in early February, but this has not yet happened. The legislation on SEMs provides for their preparation at a stage that includes two sections: the analysis of spatial data and the formulation of a proposal for a new urban plan. And the total time to complete the EPS is about one and a half years, which is an extremely limited time for a project of this size, which has not yet been achieved in any EPS of this type (for example, Mati – Kokkino Limanaki, Elafonissos).
