On Tuesday, at a meeting in the Victoria Palace, the leaders of the Coalition decided that the threshold for abuse of official position should remain at the level of 9,000 lei. The proposal belongs to the Minister of Justice Katalin Preda and was supported at a meeting of the PSD coalition. PNL parliamentarians wanted the threshold to be 6,000 lei, equivalent to two minimum salaries.
The Legal Committee of the Chamber of Deputies meets at 3:00 p.m. to discuss a bill to amend the Criminal Code and introduce a threshold for the crime of abuse of office and negligence. Deputies-lawyers will discuss the amendments and prepare a report that will be presented at the plenary session. The Chamber of Deputies is the forum for decision-making, and once adopted in plenary, the adopted form will be forwarded to President Klaus Iohannis for promulgation.
Deputies-lawyers discussed the draft law on Monday, but without discussing the substance.
Also, Minister of Justice Katalin Predoyu came to the parliament to the parliamentary groups PSD and PNL, where he explained to the deputies why it is necessary to introduce a sum for the crimes of abuse and neglect of official duties. At the end of the meeting with the parliamentarians, Preda announced that he supports, as discussed in the Coalition, the threshold of 9,000 lei.
PNL MPs announced that they want to propose that the threshold be two minimum wages per economy, 6,000 lei to be exact.
It will be recalled that last week the Senate adopted a draft of amendments to the Criminal Code, which establish a value threshold for abuse and negligence in the service. More precisely, if the damage is less than 250,000 lei, i.e. 50,000 euros, then there is no crime. This was provided for by Law No. 13, which brought hundreds of thousands of people to the streets, only then the threshold was 200,000 lei.
The amendment, which introduces a threshold of 250,000 lei for abuse of office, was received by e-mail from the power senators after a meeting in the narrow circle of the Coalition: “We were given the amendments that needed to be adopted,” explained the president of the legal commission in the Senate, Christian Tagarlash, who amended the Criminal Code Amendment Bill, which was passed by the Senate on Wednesday.
The PNL senator explained that the amendment adopted by the Legal Commission was based on the Coalition’s decision from Sunday evening, which was communicated to him by email. According to HotNews.ro sources, Marcel Cholaku, Nicolae Chuke, Lucian Bode, Katalin Predoyu, Kelemen Hunor, Marian Neatsu and Robert Kazanchuk attended the Coalition meeting on Sunday night.
Later, Justice Minister Katalin Predoyu announced that he was proposing to set a value threshold of 9,000 lei. Coalition leaders Marcel Čolaku and Nicolae Chuke wrote on Facebook that they support the Justice Minister’s proposal.
