On Monday, investigators conducted dozens of searches in Bucharest of people who allegedly forged and provided disability certificates to obtain the right to a pension. According to the police, at least 60 people from Bucharest and Ilfov would have benefited from the reduction of the minimum contribution period by 15 years and thus defrauded the public insurance budget, causing losses of around 960,000 euros.

According to Romanian police, 46 searches were carried out on people suspected of forging and providing several people with disability certificates in order to be entitled to a state pension before completing a minimum training period.

During 2022, police officers of the Bucharest Anti-Organized Crime Brigade – Anti-Terrorist Financing and Money Laundering Service informed themselves on the job that they had been forged and were available to a large number of persons with a degree of disability to qualify for a state pension before reaching minimum insurance experience of 15 years, being in a criminal case under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office of district court 2.

Thus, the research revealed that, starting from 2019 until now, several people from Bucharest and neighboring counties, who wanted to retire but did not have the necessary experience, applied for and received a state pension based on falsified disability certificates, citing on the legislative norm, which gives people with disabilities the possibility of early retirement.

These persons would benefit from the reduction of the minimum contribution period by 15 years, thereby defrauding the state insurance budget.

According to the Romanian police, more than 60 people have been identified as receiving state pensions without the right, and the total amount of damage caused to the state insurance budget is more than 4,800,000 lei.

After the searches, documents, tools used to forge documents, sums of money in lei and foreign currency, mobile phones, as well as media were seized, and 65 people are to be taken to the headquarters of the organized crime fighting brigade. in Bucharest.
