But the great performer will always live among us with her songs. Those of us who have had the greatest privilege of knowing her up close have come to know her spirit, soul, modesty and dignity. The great lady is “gone”, but she will always be here. The hands of the clock don’t stop like that…”

Who was Rena Kumiotis?

Rena Kumioti was born in Athens, in Nea Ionia, on May 3, 1948. Her parents were refugees. Her father is Smyrnios, her mother is from Constantinople.

In 1968, he worked at Apanemia, where Manolis Mitsias, who had just arrived from Thessaloniki, also arrived. Less than a month later, she started working in the store, and one evening Lefteris Papadopoulos heard her and offered to sing with Giannis Poulopoulos on the album “o Dromos”, which they were preparing with Mimi Plessas.

The first song he sang was “Give me a mouth” by the well-known “swallow”. And then “For the first time.” From Apanemia, he unexpectedly finds himself working with Giannis Poulopoulos, Stratos Dionisiou, and Lefteris Mytileneos at Can-Can. In the same year in the theater “REX” in the theater “Dromos”. They follow in the discography “Stop the hands of the clock”, “Light my new moon” by Mimi Plessas, and also participated in the recordings “Hours” and “Thalssino phylli” by Linos Kokotos. Next summer again with Poulopoulos at Athenaia. And then there were three seasons at Daylin. October 1970 to 1972 Grigoris Bitikotsis, Stamatis Kokotas, Christakis and George Zampetas were also there.

In 1972 he collaborated with Giorgos Dalaras at the Burnelis Theatre. After “Twilight” he went to “Fantasy”. Again with Poulopoulos in Plaka, then again at Can-Can with Dionysius and Zambeta. In 1974, she left for work in Canada, where she met and married her second husband. In 1983 he returned to Greece and reappeared with Giannis Poulopoulos, Gina Spiliotopoulou and the Athenian troupe in “Zygo”. Then in “Sunsets” with Zambeta and Mary Linda and in “Stars” with Kokota. Two years in a row on the Marquise yacht. In 1995 he collaborated with Mimi Plessas. Since then, he has only given concerts in the summer and has made selective appearances on the music scene.
