German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is on an official visit to Romania on Monday and will meet with President Klaus Iohannis and Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke. A tripartite meeting will be held in the Cotrocen Palace, in which the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, will also take part. They will talk about the security situation and assistance to the Republic of Moldova.

“The President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, will receive the Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Olaf Scholz, on Monday, April 3, 2023, at the Cotroceni Palace on the occasion of his official visit to Romania. The President of Romania will also hold a tripartite meeting in which he will participate together with the President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu and Chancellor Olaf Scholz,” the Presidential Administration reports.

According to the official schedule, the German chancellor will also meet with Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke, and the two government delegations will meet at the Victoria Palace.

“The visit of the Chancellor of Germany is a moment of confirmation of the excellent bilateral relations of a strategic nature between Romania and the Federal Republic of Germany, which are based on traditional friendship, broad historical and interpersonal relations, as well as on common interest in European security in the current difficult context created by Russian aggression against Ukraine” , – reported in the Presidential Administration.

According to the quoted source, the discussions between President Klaus Iohannis and Chancellor Olaf Scholz will focus on the further development and deepening of Romanian-German cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.

“The attention of both sides will be focused on the dynamism of economic exchanges and investments, taking into account the fact that Germany is the most important commercial partner of our country and the second investor in the Romanian economy, as well as in sectoral cooperation. At the same time, the goal will be to ensure close coordination within the framework of the EU and NATO,” the presidency noted.

In European affairs, the leaders of the two countries will exchange views on current issues, paying special attention to the process of Romania’s accession to the Schengen zone, measures to support Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, ensuring the competitiveness of the European economy, energy security, climate change and the green transition.

“President Klaus Iohannis and Chancellor Olaf Scholz will also discuss the security situation caused by the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, in the light of recent events, cooperation for multidimensional support of Ukraine, aid to refugees, assistance in the transit of Ukrainian grain. to the global market, as well as support for the European path of this country. At the same time, Romanian-German cooperation in the field of defense will be considered in order to strengthen the deterrence position on the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance and strengthen the security of the Black Sea region,” the message says. The President of Romania and the Federal Chancellor will emphasize the important role played by the Romanian community in Germany and the German minority in our country, with a great contribution to the rapprochement and mutual knowledge of the two nations.
