Flagship Hong Kong, took off from Ecuador with bananas and final destination Nicomedia, Turkey. Narcotic substances, the sale of which can bring illegal financial benefits totaling more than 600,000 euros, were found by the ship’s crew in boxes of electrical equipment.
The ship sailed to Piraeus to repair the damage, and the captain, discovering the drugs, notified the authorities.
Heads of regional Drug Enforcement Unit (DODIN) The Piraeus and Rafina Central Port Authority, with police drug detection dogs, carried out an inspection of the exterior and interior of the ship. The investigation involved a team from the Underwater Missions Division, officers from the 3rd Piraeus Customs and the Crime Control Directorate of the Hellenic Police Headquarters. As part of the investigation, a tracking device and the specified amount of a narcotic substance were seized.
