In the presence of Frans Timmermans, Marcel Čolaku Çolaku boasted on Friday on an open stage that the PSD had saved the country during a medical, economic and energy crisis, while “some who called themselves ‘saviors’ had fled”. In addition, Cholaku says that the PSD has left behind “the old methods of conducting politics and we have become a modern party.”
“We assumed government after some self-proclaimed ‘saviors’ fled, leaving the country mired in massive debt. We took over in the midst of a medical, economic, energy and social crisis. We assumed everything, because it was the only opportunity to concretely help Romanians in those difficult moments,” said Colaku from the podium of the event dedicated to the 130th anniversary of social democracy.
In addition, Cholaku says that if the PSD had not been in power, none of the measures taken by the current government would have been possible.
“Since we joined the Coalition, we have demonstrated that we can lead, we can fight for what we believe in and we can achieve results. We raised the minimum wage, we fixed the energy market thrown into chaos by a completely incompetent government, and we supported Romanian companies. If PSD was not in government, none of the measures taken last year would have happened. It’s true!”, the SDP president continued.
Cholaku continued his speech by declaring that his PSD had reformed.
“As a party, we left behind the old methods of conducting politics and became a modern European party focused on supporting and developing the Romanian economy. We not only renewed ourselves here at home, but also took an important place at the table of the social democratic parties of Europe,” said the PSD leader.
