The doctors who came to the man found the mummified body of the woman on the couch, DPA and Agerpres report.

The man lived in a part of the house with his sister and brother-in-law, the latter was the person who alerted the authorities, Polish media reported.

The incident happened at the end of February, according to the prosecutor’s office in the city of Gliwice in southwestern Poland. The man lived in Radlin, about 50 kilometers south of Gliwice.

A medico-legal report showed that the woman died in 2010. After this discovery, the prosecutor’s office decided to open the grave.

“When the coffin was opened, there was no body in it,” said a spokesman for the prosecutor’s office. DNA analysis showed that the mummy found in the house belonged to the man’s mother.

He was considered strange and his relatives rarely visited him, Polish media reported. The man did not come to terms with his mother’s death, took the body out of the grave and embalmed it with chemicals, Polish media reported.

The man was hospitalized and will be examined for abuse of the corpse.
