One of the two brothers charged with the cold-blooded murder of businessman Yannis Makris has been sentenced to life in prison.

On the contrary, the elder brother was acquitted because of doubts.

Yiannis Makris was killed outside his home in Voula in 2018. The businessman tried to escape, but the executioner managed to shoot him. Surveillance cameras recorded the death blow.

A mixed jury of appeals in Athens found a 33-year-old man guilty of the murder of a businessman and sentenced him to life imprisonment based on the decision of the first instance. At the same time, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison and a fine of 1,000 euros for offenses involving the illegal possession and use of weapons, while he acknowledged no extenuating circumstances.

His 37-year-old brother, sentenced in the first instance to 10 years in prison for simple complicity in the murder, was ultimately acquitted by a majority due to doubt.

The wife of the victim gave the court a “gift”. Victoria Coconut who has repeatedly claimed that the “mastermind” of the murder remains at large.

The two defendants denied their involvement in the case both in the first instance and in the appellate instance, insisting on their innocence.
