Chronicles
It all happened on Wednesday morning in a solitary ward of the orthopedic department, where there was a 51-year-old man with septicemia of the left leg.
A patient who had previously been admitted to a psychiatric clinic was given nasal oxygen.
At one point, around 10:30 am, he tried to light a cigarette, which ignited the oxygen. Immediately, the curtain of the room and the special mattress on which he was lying caught fire.
Fortunately, the physiotherapist who was there intervened, as well as the patient accompanying him, who put out the fire with a fire extinguisher and provided first aid to the 51-year-old man.
The fire department was then called and the orthopedic department was evacuated without the fire spreading on a large scale.
