Climate change with rising global temperatures is one of the biggest challenges facing our time and our planet. The reckless use of plastic, low levels of reuse, recycling and composting, a high energy footprint, and a number of other man-made causes are contributing to an escalating negative impact on the environment.
The numbers speak for themselves: about 9 million tons of plastic waste enters the oceans every year, causing untold damage to local ecosystems and marine life. In addition, about 9 million tons of clothes are thrown into landfills every year, which are often illegally placed in environmentally sensitive areas (forests, lakes, bird sanctuaries, etc.), putting a serious burden on the environment, while our colleague people are deprived basic goods such as clean clothes.
Knowing the problems, needs and complexity of modern reality, Miss takes action. Favorite cleanser that is here and more 50 years takes care of our clothes and revitalizes them its social and ecological purpose in relation to the environment and man:
“Clean Future”
Skip actively participates in strategic actions “Clean Future” Unilever to reduce the use of plastic and reduce the environmental impact of household cleaning and hygiene products.. The solution is not to eliminate plastic, but to reduce the use of virgin plastic, treating it as a resource and not as waste, as circular economy principles dictate.
Within this framework best skip efficiency, with excellent performance even at low washing temperaturesincludes:
– 100% recyclable packaging
– Packaging containing 35% recycled plastic
– Formulations with 100% natural enzymes
The use of recycled plastic in Skip packaging, produced in Greece at the Unilever plant in Renti, is equivalent to saving 146 tons of plastic per year. This number corresponds to 58 million children’s building blocks, which, if placed next to each other, will cover the distance between Athens and Venice!
“Social Wardrobe”
The garment industry currently ranks 2nd.V the most polluting in the world, after the oil industry. Just think that in an era of soaring global temperatures, it takes about 7,500 liters of water to create a pair of jeans. At the same time, it is estimated that the average European throws 14 kg of clothes into the trash every year. In an effort to change mindsets and limit environmental impact, in 2022 “Skip the social toilet”together with the organization Fabric Republic. This is an initiative where clothes that consumers no longer use – often because they are no longer being produced – are collected and offered to socially disadvantaged groups.
Unilever and Skip placed in the central part of Attica to collect clothes large chest of drawers form T-shirtdecorated by famous street artists. The fact that in just 9 months they have raised over 10,508 kg of clothing it’s impressive and inspiring at the same time!
This is a modern and effective application of the principles of the circular economy, which is one of the main actions to ensure the sustainability of the planet.
“Social laundry”
First Community Laundry works in 2016 in the center of Athens in collaboration with the Municipality of Athens to provide free “washes of love” to our fellows who do not have access to electricity or electrical appliances.
For its operation, Unilever equipped special areas with professional washer and dryers, and also took over the systematic supply of Skip detergents and Cajoline conditioners to the structures.
Subsequently, in cooperation with the municipalities of Thessaloniki and Alimos, new social laundries were created. For 6.5 years of operation Community Laundryboth through its permanent structures in Athens, Thessaloniki and Alimos, and in emergencies (such as natural disasters) throughout Greece, has provided more than 189 000 love washes clearing more 1500 tons of clothes!
