Soldiers of the Russian airborne assault unit, who complained that their commanders called them “criminals” and forced them into suicidal combat situations, are now being interrogated by the military prosecutor’s office, the independent Russian agency ASTRA reports. CNN.

ASTRA reported that it had spoken with the relatives of the victims who are part of the “Storm” detachment of the Ministry of Defense.

In a video last week, the men said they were holed up in trenches in the village of Vodiane, near Donetsk, and their commanders deployed “blocking troops” to prevent them from retreating. Later they were sent to Donetsk, reports ASTRA.

  • “They have set up blocking troops for us and do not allow us to leave our positions… They threaten to destroy us one by one and as a whole. They want to execute us as witnesses of completely negligent criminal leadership,” Russian military officer Oleksandr Gorin said in the video.
  • “Our commanders are a criminal organization. It is impossible to say otherwise,” said another Russian military man, who called himself Sergei Moldanov.

Two units have gone missing and “allegedly they have already been put under control for voluntarily leaving the unit,” reports ASTRA, citing soldiers’ relatives.
