Sweet waters: Babis Anagnostopoulos at the Ministry of Emergency Situations

Today, the Court of Appeal will again appear before the judges of the Mixed Jury Babis Anagostopoulos who is expected to stand trial in the second degree for the murder of his wife Caroline Crouch in sweet waters.

The trial was announced on February 20 and after the jury was drafted, it was adjourned to today as the man sentenced to life and 11 years changed his lawyer and the new lawyer asked for time to prepare. However, a few days later the lawyer resigned.

According to APE-MBE, the 34-year-old accused of cold-blooded murder of his 20-year-old wife Caroline Crouchs and the murder of their puppy at their home in Glyka Nera on May 11, 2021 will appear in court with the lawyer he has had since his arrest and who also represented him at the first trial.

He wants to break lives

In the first test, the pilot failed to convince that everything happened in the mode of intense emotional stress, that is, he was in boiling cold. He was also not convinced that he was entitled to leniency recognition.

From the trial, which is expected to start today, Anagnostopoulos, who is being held in Malandrino prisons, expects to violate the verdict of the first trial and leave the Court of Appeal without hearing another life sentence.

The side of the victim will also stand before the court. The parents of 20-year-old Karolina, represented by their lawyer, ask not to commute the sentence of the man who killed their daughter and then cried in their arms because of her loss.

First test

Babis Anagostopoulos, according to the decision of the court of first instance, killed his 20-year-old wife when she began to think and discuss “the termination of their married life after taking steps to find a place to live.”

He claims that everything happened after a fight, during which the victim made a movement that he perceived as a potential threat to their then 11-month-old daughter. He claims that he was in a mental state and did not even realize that the 20-year-old girl passed out under the pressure he applied to her face with a pillow.

In the trial court, the defendant tried to argue that this was an unfortunate moment, a painful dissonance in his marriage to a 20-year-old girl. The judges of the MO did not accept any of this, believing that the crime that shook Greece and abroad was planned, organized and methodically carried out by a criminal who did not bend for a minute.

How he killed Caroline

According to the case file, the 20-year-old youth died a painful death at the hands of the pilot. For six minutes, the 34-year-old man pressed a pillow against Caroline’s head, which blocked her breathing. Despite the efforts of the victim, who had just slept, to escape, the 34-year-old man did not ease the pressure for a second.

Then, according to the case file, he placed their child on the dead mother’s back and, after hanging Caroline Roxy’s dog, alerted Immediate Action by setting up a post-murder robbery scenario. For 37 days after that, the pilot testified about the perpetrators of the robbery and the cruelty that they showed to his wife and dog.

The Glyka Nere crime is one of those that caused a sensation, not only because of the particular cruelty that the first evidence testified to, but mainly because it turned out that what the perpetrator himself presented as a cruel criminal act that he suffered, it was ultimately a series of heinous acts of a man who wept and begged the authorities to catch the criminals.
