An uninvited guest has appeared in the trenches of the Ukrainian military, but this time it’s not a Russian occupier, but a Ukrainian beaver that won’t let go, according to footage shared on social networks.
“The Ukrainian army is trying to repel a beaver attack on its positions,” writes Spetschersonskyi Cat, a net user who often publishes news about the situation on the Ukrainian front.

The footage shows a soldier pulling the beaver’s tail to pull it out of the trenches, but the beaver immediately drops it and the rodent quickly runs back.
Beavers, perceived as help against a new attack from Belarus
Earlier this year, Reuters reported to Business Insider that the animals are helping Ukraine defend against a potential new attack by keeping the land swampy and impassable through dikes made by the rodents, according to a military spokesman.
This helps Ukraine by reducing the likelihood of an attack through Belarus, which borders Ukraine not far from the capital Kyiv.
“When [castorii] they build their dams, usually people destroy them, but this year they didn’t because of the war, so now there is water everywhere,” Serhiy Kominsky said.
