PSD President Marcel Čolaku said that the National Liberal Party is not very comfortable in the opinion polls at the moment and that he understood from the Liberals’ public statements that they do not want an alliance with the Social Democrats. in 2024.
“I said, like any politician, that everything is possible to have a coalition, to have an alliance from 2024. Alliance is more, and joint candidates. I never said that Cholaku is a candidate or that Chuke is the prime minister. And Cholaku and Chuke are transitory people, temporary due to certain functions. I think the most important ones remain the PSD, the biggest party in Romania, and the PNL, which is not very comfortable in the opinion polls at the moment, but that’s their problem, not ours,” said Marcel Ciolacu on Sunday evening at the Romania station. TV asked if there will still be a ruling coalition formed by PSD, PNL and UDMR after the 2024 elections and if he will run for president, Agerpres reports.
He added that he understood from the answers of PNL representatives that they do not want an alliance with PSD in 2024.
“I said – we can have a coalition or an alliance. From the response from PNL, I understand that this is undesirable. I am glad that I was told ahead of time that at some point I wanted to gather my colleagues in the National Policy Council to discuss this aspect. Now there is no need. I also saw the response from the public,” he said.
