Today, millions of citizens around the world “turn off” the lights for the holiday “Earth Hour”. As the clock strikes 8:30 pm, famous landmarks, monuments, and buildings around the world are turned off for an hour.
“Unfortunately, we have reached a tipping point. 80% of nature in Europe is in poor condition, while from 1970 to today the number of species worldwide has decreased by 69%. The climate crisis has ceased to be a scenario on paper and has become our everyday life with countless and unforeseen consequences,” notes WWF Greece in its statement for Earth Hour.
Among other things, the environmental organization also emphasized that: “If we want to turn the switch, it is not enough to protect what is left alive.” We must work together to restore what humanity has destroyed and heal the wounds. It’s time to give nature life again.”
Earth Hour is already celebrated in Australia and Asia:
