The primary school teacher, along with her two six-year-old students, took the Greek flag and marched along the main street of the island to honor the memory of the heroes of the revolution.

Efi Georgaka, mother of six-year-old Damoulis Luyakis, told ERT Chania: “I was very happy that we are here today because I fought to stay here with our children. The little boy was walking with his classmate and their kindergarten teacher and was very happy. The eldest children Nicholas, 13, and Kelly, 12, did not march because there is no school here, as the municipal authorities did not take the necessary actions indicated by the Ministry of Education for the operation of the secondary school in Gavdos. However, after much effort, the children remained on the island and attend classes with the help of volunteer teachers. In fact, the material they missed was passed, and in June we will go to Paleochora to take the next exams.

The parade of Angelos, the only student in their school, was special. Arkion.

Angelos did not go alone, as he was accompanied by 13 students from the 1st Primary School of Voula, who went to Arkios with their parents and teachers.

The Coast Guard also participated in the celebration with the high seas patrol boat PATH 080. After the parade, young and old alike had the opportunity to board the patrol boat and meet its crew.

The student marched alone in the village of Naxos.

Naxos is certainly not a deserted island, but today it gave us a special moment when a schoolgirl walked alone through the picturesque village of Apollo.

Little Efremina, a 6th grade student, proudly marched along with her teacher, and the few villagers applauded her.

This year’s parade will be the last in the village of Naxos, as next year Eframina will go to the gymnasium and the elementary school will be closed.
