Americans Madison Chock and Evan Bates won their first ice dance world championships on Saturday after impressing on the ice rink in Saitama, Japan.

Despite the fall in the free program, the American pair, who already led the ranking after the rhythmic program on Friday, dominated the competition, receiving 226.01 points in two rounds.

Italians Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri (219.85 points) and Canadians Piper Gilles and Paul Poiret (217.88 points) closed the podium.

Absent from this year’s World Figure Skating Championships in Saitama were the French pair of Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron, the 2022 Olympic champions and five-time world champions. In June of last year, they announced that they had taken a one-year break from the competition, writes Agerpres.
