The causes that led to the fire that broke out in a restaurant in Nea Smyrni and led to its complete destruction are being investigated by the fire department.

The investigation was carried out by the service’s investigative department, whose staff will enter the ruins to analyze the area and identify any finds that can “indicate” how the fire started.

This was reported by sources in the fire service. cathimerini.grnoted that although according to some indications, the fire allegedly started as a result of arson, nothing is clear yet, since the investigation starts from scratch and all possibilities are open.

The fire was noticed by a restaurant cleaning lady who heard an explosion inside the store and then broken windows.

In an interview with OPEN, the worker clearly spoke of arson, as he saw 2-3 people approach the store, smash the window and throw an explosive device inside.

The fire started in the restaurant early Friday morning when 20 firefighters with 9 vehicles, police and EKAB arrived on the scene. As it became known, shortly after 10.00 the fire was localized.

According to the fire department, the man found in the first floor stairwell was taken to EKAV as he was having trouble breathing and was taken to Evangelismos Hospital.

At the same time, three people and a baby, who were on the third floor, after the fall of smoke from the fire, were taken out of the stairwell to a safe place, and the baby was taken to the Children’s Hospital as a precaution.
