Alka’s murder trial: “They wanted to kill.” I heard screams of pain,” said a 20-year-old witness.

The defendant’s goal was to “find as few Martians as possible”, so that there were fewer of them, “to kill”, as his friend testified. Alki Campanu who was present during a wild fan attack in which a 19-year-old student was killed and two other people from his group were injured.

The witness, whose interrogation is now on the 17th day of the trial of 12 defendants in the Mixed Jury Court in Thessaloniki, reacting with “survival instinct”, in his words, caught up and ran away, running away as best he could. “I heard screams of pain and ‘help’,” he said, and so he notified shoppers to call an ambulance.

Unraveling the tangle of memories and trying to recall images of the fateful night of February 1, 2022, the 20-year-old boy first mentioned how a group of five friends ended up on the steps of the house on T. Ghazi. (now Alcibiades Campanu).

“We got up and went to the apartment building, to the stairs. It was cold and there were dents in place. We were there two more times,” he said, describing the moment when the criminals approached them, he said: “After a meter and a half, we saw about ten people in front of us. One asked: “What kind of team are you?”. I answered “Mars”, and then they rushed at us.

Realizing “what must happen”, as he testified, he jumped off the terrace to the left and went down through Plastira street towards Papanastasiou street. “Obviously, I felt danger and horror,” he continued in his testimony, emphasizing that he could not distinguish any faces – “they were dressed in black, and their features were covered,” he said, “nor that they held in their hands. . However, he specified that one to two people were outside the three vehicles in which the defendants traveled to the scene of the attack.

“I was scared”

“I have footage from the scene. The people who were in front of me when I left. I don’t have a flow of events,” the 20-year-old witness said elsewhere in his testimony. As for Alkis, he indicated that he could not know “what happened on the steps.” Regarding the police investigations, which began immediately, he said that “At first I was terrified, I didn’t know how to behave. Then we went to the department, and I calmed down.”

During the interrogation of a 20-year-old teenager by the defense and the question of why he does not go to the aid of Alkis and two other victims, among whom was his twin brother, Alkis’ parents reacted. “How many murders do you need to commit?” – said the father, and the mother reported: “What is the child’s fault?”

The trial continues with the interrogation of the same witness, who is the last (26th) in the corresponding list of the indictment.
