Delivery: Increase to 100 young people with Postgraduate Scholarships

“We recognize value, we reward excellence, we honor the younger generation in time, so today is a day of honor and an open invitation.” President of the Union of Greek Shipowners, Melina Travlowannounced yesterday the new scholarship program of the Union “Combination for education” for the 2023-24 academic year. As Ms. Travlow noted, the members of the Union joined forces, resulting in 100 scholarships this year for postgraduate studies in Greece or abroad, “this is the largest scholarship program in the history of our Union.” It is worth noting that 20 scholarships were awarded in 2022, and 25 more in 2021.

“As the Association of Hellenic Shipowners and SYN-ENOSIS, education is at the heart of our actions. The scholarship program has been our priority for many years. In these young people, to whom we award postgraduate scholarships of their choice, we recognize the inspirers of their generation, we recognize our positive role models. They are our guides to a hopeful future for both society and country,” said Ms. Travlow. “We send a loud message from here, from the center of world shipping, our Piraeus, to the whole world that young women and men are a plus in our shipping industry and in our society,” the EEE President concluded, and the video with last year’s comrades confirmed the truth of the word. “I knew that this was a necessary stage for obtaining a master’s degree, precisely because it is in America,” comments fellow Maria Rousi, and Arina Jalagia describes the path to excellence as follows: “Step by step, you achieve everything you want, do not looking at what is happening around you. Through the program, they gave impetus to their professional ambitions.

Her initiative Union of Greek Shipowners welcomed the Minister of Shipping Yannis Plakiotakis, who was present at the event. “Shipping is the largest strategic pillar of the country and the most important part of the national economy,” recalled the minister, who, however, also made extensive reference to the social work of the EEE. The Union has developed programs aimed at the benefit of society as a whole – food assistance, social protection, strengthening the national health system. In total, more than 80 million euros have been allocated in recent years to important projects throughout the country. Finally, he touched on the need to “bring more young Greeks into the profession of the navy and shipping in general”.

Conditions

The 100 scholarships are not limited to marine studies. In particular, the program is aimed at graduates of all fields of study under the age of 35 (for graduates of medical schools, the age limit has been shifted to 38 years) with a degree of at least 8. A prerequisite is that they have already been accepted into a one- or two-year program postgraduate study at a university in Greece or abroad with a start date in the fall of 2023. In the supporting documents file, applicants are requested to attach a statement from their family or their own bank account if they are filing an independent tax return, as the financial ability of the interested party is also taken into account. Interested parties have until April 20 to submit their applications.
