Karpenisi: 57 cypress trees for the victims of the Tempe National Tragedy

From today, 57 erect cypress trees stand at the entrance to the city of Karpenissi in memory of the victims of the Tempi national tragedy, which killed mostly small children, many of whom were students.

In particular, as a sign of memory and respect for the 57 of our fellow citizens who died as a result of the tragic accident in Tempi, Department of Forestry and Nature Management (Karpenisi) from Agricultural University Athens. At the suggestion of the rector of the institution, Mr. Spiros Kinciou, 57 cypress trees were planted at the entrance to Karpenisi (crossroads of Piraiki Patraiki). The trees were planted by the students of the Agricultural University, professors, employees and representatives of the municipality of Karpenisi. In fact, the municipality will see to it that in the coming days an appropriate sign is erected to inform passers-by.

“This is a symbolic act of remembrance,” Kintsios told K. “Today, on World Forestry Day, we started a symbolic planting of trees so that the townspeople remember the tragic event that shocked us all and prevent the recurrence of such incidents. Little by little, a small thicket will be created in this place to remember our dead, our children, our students,” emphasizes the professor of the department, Mr. Spiros Kaloudis.

The 57 erect cypresses are tall, decorative, coniferous trees that grow slowly and steadily, reaching great heights while maintaining a dense aristocratic appearance, an upright, strong pillar.
