The simulation for the 2023 national assessment starts on Monday with the Romanian language test and continues on Tuesday with the mathematics test, the results of which will be announced on March 29. Students have two hours to solve the Romanian subjects obtained during the simulation. 8th graders could prepare for the simulation of the 2023 national assessment by solving sample items in Romanian from the practice tests of previous years.
On Monday, Hotnews.ro will present the items in Romanian and the simulation scale of the National Assessment 2023 as soon as they are available.
How Romanian subjects work in the 2023 National Assessment simulation
The Romanian language subjects for the simulation of the National Assessment 2023 are designed based on the content and related competencies according to the programs.
- Content lists for the mock National Assessment exam are available here.
For the simulation of the 2023 national assessment, the topics in Romanian are written in the form of a brochure, which is printed on both sides, as reported by the National Center for Policy on Education and Assessment. Students may request additional pages if needed.
The results obtained during the simulation are not contested and are not included in the catalog. However, in exceptional situations where it is necessary to write notes to the catalog, this can be done on the basis of a written request of the interested parties.

The simulation tests for the 2023 ZNO begin at 9:00 a.m., when Romanian language topics will be distributed in each classroom. Students can access the classrooms until 8:30. The time for the preparation of the written work is two hours (for students of the 8th grade) from the moment of the completion of the distribution of topics from the Romanian language for the simulation of the 2023 ZNO for each student.
Which Romanian language subjects were modeled on last year’s national assessment
The topics in Romanian for the simulation of the 2022 national assessment consisted of text from Dacia Felix by Cesar Petrescu and text from People, Facts, Memories by Franciscus Munteanu. The students had to write an argumentative text of 50-70 words – “Do you think that an open dialogue with teachers leads students away from or closer to understanding the taught lessons?”.
Another Romanian language topic in last year’s national assessment simulation was characterizing the character of Mr. Preda from Cesar Petrescu’s text in 150 words, following a number of specified elements.

National assessment – Romanian language topics obtained in last year’s exam
The Romanian subjects in last year’s national assessment were not considered to pose much of a problem for secondary school leavers. Students taking the Romanian language exam of the National Assessment 2022 had to solve two subjects, with several requirements, in the first of which they were given the fragments “Toate pânzele sus!” Council of Tudoran and from “Franturi din vieta lui Delavrancea” by Sella Delavrancea.
In the second topic, students of the 8th grade had to write a narrative text, no more than 150 words, in which they would present the most beautiful incident from the holidays. The text had to contain a descriptive sequence and a dialogue sequence.

Grade point average V-VIII, subtracted from the calculation of the average entry into high school
Grades V-VIII GPA will be removed from the calculation of the GPA for high school entrance, so the graduate ranking will be based only on GPA on the national assessment starting in the 2022-2023 school year.
Until now, the average entrance score, on the basis of which graduates of the 9th grade of secondary schools were enrolled, was calculated as a weighted average between the overall average score on the national assessment, made by the graduates of the 8th grade, which has a weight of 80%, and the overall average graduation score of 5 – 8th grade, which has a weight of 20% in the calculation of the average entrance score.
On Monday, Hotnews.ro will present the items in Romanian and the simulation scale of the National Assessment 2023 as soon as they are available.
