Boston strangler ★★★
POLICE THRILLER (2023)
Directed by: Matt Raskin
Cast: Keira Knightley, Carrie Coon.
One of the most anticipated new releases on the Disney+ platform, Matt Ruskin’s Crown Heights is about a chilling, real-life murder case that, in fact, was never solved. We are in the early 1960s when a series of strangulations of women rocked Boston. Two active reporters (Keira Knightley, Carrie Coon) are closely following the case, even making discoveries along the way that surpass the police investigations themselves. However, over time, the matter turns out to be much more difficult than it seemed at first glance.
Aesthetically, Ruskin follows David Fincher’s (Zodiac, Mindhunter) successful recipe, setting the right atmosphere with pale green interiors and foggy exterior shots to put us firmly in the mood of a crime thriller. What is interesting here is that the heroines are two female journalists, real persons at a time when they were considered suitable almost exclusively for secular columns.
Keira Knightley and Carrie Coon are dynamic enough in an ensemble that has its weaknesses, but has good pace, tension and twists to keep the viewer interested until the very end.

Marie Curie: the woman who changed the world ★★★
BIOGRAPHY (2019)
Directed by: Marian Satrapi
Cast: Rosamund Pike, Sam Reilly, Anneryn Barnard.
From the Ertflix platform, we choose a relatively recent biography of the great scientist Marie Curie. The director, who at one time conquered the entire film community with his masterpiece Persepolis, Marian Satrapi presents here a version of the Curie story, heavily seasoned with female pride and a beautiful actress in the central role. Rosamund Pike has been playing the great chemist since she meets her future husband, Pierre Curie (Sam Reilly), as a young girl, and together they embark on a journey of great scientific discovery.
The film follows a life journey full of obstacles, with a focus on those related to the gender of the heroine, as well as exciting achievements, some of which are well known and others lesser known to this day. Basically, it speaks of an absolute devotion to truth and science, as well as – as seen mainly towards the end – a duty to society as a whole.
