Yury Samoilov was arrested because of the image on his phone, his brother Mykola Lunchenkov told Novaya Gazeta Europa.

Samoilov was detained on the subway on Friday morning after a passenger saw images on his phone “discrediting the Russian military” and called the police.

Police officers pounced on Samoilov after several stops.

Then the law enforcement officers looked at his phone and filed a report on him for distributing “extremist materials.” Later, information about this case appeared on the website of the Cheremushkin court.

On the same day, the court ordered Samoilova’s arrest for two weeks. The man was sent to Sakharovo pre-trial detention center, where he is currently being held. There he was allowed to call his mother and tell her what had happened.

Since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, the Russian police have often detained people for expressing an anti-war position, including for denunciations of them.
