Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accuses Romania of occupying Bessarabia until 1940 after she was angered by a message from the Romanian Foreign Ministry endorsing the Republic of Moldova’s replacement of the Moldovan language with Romanian in all laws, which “modification restores scientific truth.” “It is necessary to follow the historical logic, calling the Romanian language the Moldovan language, and not the other way around,” she emphasized, appropriately Open.md.
“By giving up the Moldovan language, the current regime in Chisinau is solving the question: whose is Bessarabia now (which was occupied by Romania until 1940) and who owns the Dniester lands (which were part of Ukraine until 1940)? Now, paradoxically, the Moldovan language has been officially preserved only in Transnistria. If you want to transcribe the language, then you should follow the historical logic, calling the Romanian language Moldovan, and not the other way around,” Zakharova wrote in Telegram, who also wanted to refer to some “historical truths,” saying that “Moldovan is the ancient language of Moldovans, mentioned in works of the 17th century”, and “the Romanian language itself took shape only at the end of the 18th century”.
It will be recalled that the Chisinau Parliament voted on Thursday in the final reading of a bill to replace the phrase “Moldovan language” with “Romanian language” in all legislative acts of the Republic of Moldova, including the Constitution, after deputies of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) tried to block the project.
As a result, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the adoption by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova of the law on amendments to the language.
“The adoption of the said Law has a deep symbolic meaning, as it restores the scientific truth regarding the name of the official language of the Republic of Moldova and confirms the status of the Romanian language as the official language of the Republic of Moldova. This also once again confirms the commonality of language, history and culture between Romania and the Republic of Moldova,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
Zakharova said on Saturday, referring to the extension of the agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea ports, that it is possible that “in a world where men are declared women, and the Moldovan language is Romanian, it is possible, of course, not to be able to read documents.”
“But anyway, the Ukrainian side through Belarusian colleagues was notified 60 days in advance, as was the Turkish side, as well as the UN Secretary General,” she added after a Ukrainian minister said the agreement had been extended for 120 days, even though Russia said it agreed for an extension of only 60 days.
