Lieutenant General Lazaros Mavropoulos was born in 1963 in Granite Drama. In 1985 he entered the Hellenic Police School of Constables, in 1989 he entered the Hellenic Police School of Senior Constables, and in 1990 he entered the Hellenic Police Officers School, graduating in 1993. In 2006 he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Advanced Training of the Police Academy. He graduated from the Higher Interdisciplinary Military School (A.D.I.S.P.O.), as well as the National Security School with an “excellent” rating. In 2014, he attended the Police Officer Training School.

He has certificates of study at the Open University of Thessaloniki in the following subjects: “Administration and Economics”, “Medicine – Biology – Psychology – Drugs – AIDS”, “Basic Principles of Legal Sciences”, “Theology”, “Environment”. and Ecology” and “History – Archeology – Art”.
Successfully participated in a series of training seminars at the National Center for Public Administration on the legality of administrative actions, the administration of public services, human factors management, modern public administration (directions and perspectives), effective communication for open and transparent public administration and ex officio search for supporting documents in public administration.
