Donald Trump on Friday posted on Facebook and YouTube for the first time since his impeachment two years ago after the attack on the Capitol, reports AFP.
“I’m back!” wrote the former Republican president, who is running for a second term in 2024.
He accompanied his words with a short old video in which he said: “Sorry to keep you waiting, it was difficult.”
YouTube, owned by Alphabet Inc, announced on Friday that it has lifted restrictions on former US President Donald Trump’s channel after more than two years of suspension following a riot on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021, Reuters reported.
The video streaming platform banned Trump on January 12, 2021 for violating its incitement to violence policy after his supporters stormed the US Capitol as Congress began to confirm Joe Biden’s presidential victory a week earlier.
Trump now has access to key political fundraising vehicles and the ability to reach his 146 million followers on three major technology platforms when he runs for president again in 2024.
“We have carefully assessed the ongoing risk of real-world violence against the likelihood that voters will hear equally from the major national candidates in the run-up to the election,” YouTube said in a tweet, referring to the event.
Meta Platforms Inc reinstated Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts earlier this year, while his Twitter account was reinstated in November by new owner Elon Musk.
Trump’s campaign team did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
